Sustainable Journalism and Peacebuilding:
Elesongo Radio Program in Central African Republic
This paper approaches C4SC and, particularly, how the notion of sustainable journalism (Berglez et al, 2017) can be linked with peacebuilding processes. It analyzed the weekly radio program Elesongo (‘let us reconcile,’ in Sango) in the Central African Republic produced and broadcasted by Radio Ndeke Luka, a media development project run by the Swiss NGO Fondation Hirondelle. Media practices, such as the radio show Elesongo, uphold the idea that participation and sustainable solutions can be discussed and promoted regarding a local turn to peacebuilding. I argue that the notion of sustainable journalism may be embedded in the model of media development within the C4SC approach through which journalism can empower citizens with information in order to better equip them to decide on matters of public interest.
